Mangaluru/Udupi: The monsoon has intensified in the coastal region, bringing heavy rainfall across Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Kasaragod districts throughout Saturday. The heavy rain is expected to continue for the next few days, prompting the Meteorological Department to issue a “Red Alert” for June 9.
On Saturday, heavy rains caused artificial flooding on some roads in the city, including Kottara, Kottara Chowki, and Bijai, disrupting vehicular movement.
Several areas experienced heavy rainfall, including Subrahmanya, Sullia, Ainekidu, Kollamogru, Aranthodu, Jalsoor, Kadaba, Bellare, Belthangady, Ujire, Dharmasthala, Charmadi, Madanthyar, Venur, Kokkada, Nelyadi, Puttur, Uppinangady, Ilantila, Perne, Surathkal, Mulki, Ullal, Kanyana, Vitla, Manjeshwar, Bayaru, Bantwal, BC Road, and Kalladka. The sea waves were also notably high.
NDRF, SDRF on Standby
In anticipation of the monsoon, NDRF and SDRF teams are on standby in Dakshina Kannada district. A 28-member NDRF team is stationed at the CISF unit in Panambur. Additionally, a 25-member SDRF team is ready in Panambur, prepared to move to various parts of the district if necessary.
