Udupi: Heavy rains have caused significant disruptions in Udupi district, with numerous incidents of trees falling and obstructing traffic.

A massive tree fell near Pandubettu, blocking Malpe Highway (169a) and leading to its temporary closure. The heavy rain, accompanied by strong winds, has been relentless since late Wednesday night into Thursday morning, causing widespread damage across Udupi, Manipal, and surrounding areas.

The tree that fell late at night in Pandubettu not only obstructed the road but also brought down several power poles and lines, causing further damage. As a result, the Udupi-Malpe highway is currently closed, and vehicles are being redirected to alternative routes.

Despite the tree falling during the night, local residents have alleged that by 7 AM the next morning, the relevant departments had not yet taken action to clear the debris. This delay has caused frustration among the affected community.
