Shimoga: Shimoga District Deputy Commissioner K B Shivakumar has banned the entry of heavy goods vehicles into Agumbe ghat.
This move comes in the wake of the heavy downpour that might cause landslides in the ghat.
The ban has been implemented from June 15 to October 15. All trucks over 12 tonnes will be banned from passing through the ghat.
The district authorities have suggested two alternative routes for the movement of heavy freight vehicles – the Shimoga-Tirthahalli-Sringeri-Kerekatte-Karkala-Udupi-Mangaluru route and the Shimoga-Theerthahalli-Mastikette-Hulikal-Hosangadi-Siddapura-Udupi-Mangaluru route.
