Hejamadi: Vehicle owners, locals agitate over mandatory Fastag

Padubidri: As Fastag become mandatory across the country, Hejamadi tollgate witnessed some tensions as motorists without it had to pay fines in order to pass.
Vehicles without FASTag had to pay a penalty which is double the amount of the posted toll charges causing some of them to have heated arguments with the toll employees.
Police had to guard the toll gates to ensure smooth functioning.
Members of the Hejamadi Nagarik Kriya Samiti have appealed to allow the locals of Hejamadi to be exempted from paying the toll.
Shivaprasad Rai, manager for NUTPL’s toll gates at Talapady, Hejmady, and Sasthan convinced them to discuss the matter with NHAI officials.
“If our appeal is not considered and the problem resolved within Thursday then taking the people of Padubidri and Mulki into confidence, we shall protest,” said Shekhar Hejamdi, president of Nagarika Kriya Samithi.
