Bengaluru: An Australian national, who was thrown out of a hotel, was reportedly robbed by three individuals who pretended to help him file a police complaint against hotel staff.

The victim, identified as Hamzehei (38), in his complaint said that he was mugged by 4 individuals at a deserted place in Kushalnagar, a DHNS report said. The mugging took place on the night of June 23.

When Hamzehei reached Fortune Inn hotel in Nagavara, where he was staying, the staff demanded the overdue rent for 15 days. An argument broke out as the hotel staff rejected Hamzehei’s offer to pay the rent using a Credit card and demanded cash payment. The Australian was allegedly beaten up by the hotel staff and thrown out.

The trio, who was nearby, told the victim they would help him lodge a police complaint. Instead, they took the victim to a deserted place in Kushalnagar, beat him up, and robbed him. They were joined by another person at the robbery spot.

The victim threw stones at the robbers, after which they fled the spot, the DHNS report said.

The complainant claimed the muggers took away his two mobile phones, Rs 4,000 in cash, two bags, and a wallet containing credit cards and a driving license from Kushalnagar in Bengaluru on June 23.

Meanwhile, Govindapura police have begun an investigation into the matter and apprehended a suspect, identified as Syed Imran.

Hotel staff, who threw the victim out, were booked for assault, the DHNS report quoted police as saying.
