High Court asks Karnataka Govt to submit report on bill passed favouring Kambala

Mangaluru/Bengaluru: Karnataka High Court has asked Karnataka state government to submit a report on the bill passed last week in legislative assembly session favouring Kambala in Karnataka state.

The lawyer representing Udupi and Dakhina Kannada Kambala committee informed the court that, Karnataka legislature has passed a bill favouring Kambala after amending prevention of cruelty to animals act last week. Hearing his argument the court asked the concerned to submit a report on the bill passed and adjourned the hearing to February 19.

Kambala committee approached the high court urging to lift ban on Kambala after the high court banned the event till the completion of the hearing on the Public Interest Litigation (PIL) submitted by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) on February 16, 2016 asking the high court to give direction to the state government to ban Kambala as it violates the rights of the animals and animal violence takes place during the event.  Hearing the PIL, the high court had banned Kambala on November 22, last year till the completion of the hearing on the PIL submitted by PETA.
