Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada district in-charge minister Dinesh Gundu Rao said that a high-level probe has been ordered into the allegations of land mafia operating at Kettikal near Vamanjoor on the city’s outskirts.
On Friday, the minister, who inspected the affected area, gathered information from DK Deputy Commissioner Mullai Muhilan and NHAI officials.
Talking to media, he said “There are signs of a land mafia here. A high-level investigation has been ordered.”
Under the guise of highway construction, illegal mining activities have been conducted. Significant irregularities have been observed, the minister claimed.
The district administration had highlighted the issue to the municipal corporation back in February, he said and added, “We will investigate what actions the municipality has taken since then.”
Questions have also been raised about why the Department of Mines and Geology allowed soil excavation in the area, and a detailed report has been requested, he added.
