Bengaluru: Amid the Hijab vs saffron shawls row, Former Chief Minister and Congress leader Siddaramaiah urged Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai to declare holidays for all schools and colleges and resume the conduction of online classes.

Taking to Twitter, Siddaramaiah said,” I urge Karnataka Chief Minister to immediately announce holiday to all the schools & colleges, where the tussle about Hijab & Kesari is going on, and conduct online classes. This is absolutely necessary for the interest of the safety of students.”

“The issue around Hijab & Kesari is highly concerning & leading to tussle among students. Schools & Colleges are turning into a battlefield. Police have become mute spectators without taking action against those causing trouble. Parents are anxious about this,” he added.

He further said, “Hijab-Kesari issue could have been resolved harmoniously at the local level. BJP which politicized the issue is now clueless on how to control the situation. Students are suffering because of BJP’s ulterior political motives. It is unfortunate that those responsible for resolving the issues are instigating students to make it worse. BJP, State Education minister, and the Home Minister should take complete responsibility for the instigation.”

“Bommai should immediately intervene & announce holiday for the schools & colleges, and allow online classes for the benefit of students,” he opined.
