Mangaluru: The prohibitory orders in operation around the schools and college campuses in Dakshina Kannada due to the Hijab controversy have been extended till February 26.

On Saturday, Deputy Commissioner Dr. Rajendra KV issued an order to this effect. Section 144 will be in operation in 200 meters radius around schools and colleges from 6 PM on February 19 till 6 pm on February 26, the order said.

The prohibitory orders were clamped down around educational establishments to maintain the peace and tranquility in the district following the Hijab protests that erupted in the coastal district.

As the dispute has not been solved and the situation remains sensitive, the superintendent of police had requested the DC to extend section 144 presently in operation.
