As the Hijab row has resurfaced in the coastal district, Congress MLA UT Khader advised the agitating students to focus on their education.

Addressing a press conference here Khader on Monday said that people need to value the liberty they enjoy in this country. Taking a jibe at the pro-hijab protestors who have been demanding that the authorities allow them to attend classes wearing hijab, Khader said that those taking the liberty they enjoy in the country for granted should visit countries like Pakistan or Saudi Arabia.

Pointing out that students across the state are abiding by the Karnataka Hich court order on uniforms, Khader said that the rules cannot be changed to accommodate the whims of a few students.

Further, he advised the agitating students to listen to their parent’s advise before making hasty decisions.

The Uppinangady Government College authorities have suspended a few students for a week for wearing the headscarf, despite repeated warnings. Meanwhile a show-cause notice to three students by the Principal of University College, Hampankatta for holding a press meeting and making remarks against the college and its principal over the hijab issue. A reply has been sought from them in three days time span.
