Hijab vs Saffron shawl now spreads to Vijayapura

Vijayapura: The hijab versus saffron shawl controversy that has made the headlines in coastal districts of Karnataka has now spread to the Vijayapura district.

A section of students at two colleges in Indi town in the district was spotted wearing saffron shawls.

Several students of Shateshwar PU College, and G R Gandhi Arts, YA Patil Commerce and MU Doshi Science Graduate College arrived at the college wearing saffron shawls on Monday morning.

Students went into classes wearing these shawls.

Colleges declare holiday 

As a precaution, the governing bodies of the colleges have suspended classes scheduled for Monday. Students have also been strictly instructed to wear the prescribed uniform when attending the classes from Tuesday.
