Karkala: The Hindu Hitharakshana Vedike (HHV) has lodged a formal complaint with the district’s Deputy Commissioner alleging that he St Lawrence Church at Attur is being built on land encroached belonging to the state government.

The complaint states that the land atop the hill has been completely destroyed for the church’s construction. The hill has been wire fenced and a public road too has been destroyed affecting the traffic. Works have also led waste to almost 500 acres of cultivable land around the hill which will be worse during monsoon when rains will cause the sludge to flow downhill.

The complaint also alleges that the land is being used to smuggle timber wood.

It further appeals the authorities to probe these irregularities and initiate action against the guilty in 15 days. If they fail then they (HHV) will organise protests.
