Home guards deprived of their salary!

Udupi: After the police, it’s the home guards that look after the protection system, however they are themselves currently suffering due to non-payment of their salaries.

In Udupi district, along with the election honorarium, even the salaries of May, June, july month have not come. In Mangaluru Commissionerate, the salaries for the months of May, June and July have not turned up and in the rural Dakshina Kannada (DK), the salaries for the moths of June and July have not yet been paid.

Daily Rs. 380 pagar (pay)

Home guards get a daily pay of Rs. 380. Normally, they are requisitioned by the police, excise, RTO, fire brigade, tourism and mines department. During elections, the police commissioner conducts a meeting and puts forth a demand for a certain number of home guards. The officials of home guards, visit homes and convince people to join and thereby send the required number of home guards for election duty.

During the last elections, 325 home guards from Udupi and almost 800 home guards were requisitioned in D.K. district.

Election honorarium remains unpaid

Election honorarium has not been paid to Udupi district home guards. Also, their salaries for the months of May, June and July remains unpaid. In D.K. district, election honorarium has come. But salaries for the months of May, June and July has not turned up in Mangaluru Commissionerate. Also, the salaries for the months of June and July have not been paid in the D.K. SP limits.

There is opportunity for July’s salary to be paid by the 10th of the next month. It is being said that this situation has arrived due to the paucity in the budget funds.

“We have spoken to the senior officers of the central office. There is a possibility for payment within 10 days. There is belief that this problem will not continue for more days,” said Dr. Murali Mohan and Dr. Prashanth Shetty, Commandants of the undivided district.
