Mangaluru: 12 BJP legislatorswere recently elected from Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts. They have shown interest in unitedly fighting for winning a slot for Tulu language in the eighth schedule of Indian Constitution and have will not quit until the laguage reached its rightful place in the constitution.

Since the last seven decades, Tulu language has been waiting for this honour and the people feel that this is the right time for the elected representatives to put their weight behind this demand and make this happen as BJP is in power at the centre now.

The 12 legislators had recently met to discuss important demands and problems concerning the twin-districts. During these discussions, the issue of bringing Tulu under the ambit of eighth schedule of the constitution also was discussed, inform sources.

There has been a renewed thrust for the language’s chance of being included in the eighth schedule with the recent achievement of revision of Tulu dictionary, recording of Paddanas and other cultural heritage things and others and also their translation to other languages.

MP Nalin Kumar Kateel said that this issue has already been taken up in the Lok Sabha and the proposal is presently before the home minister Rajnath Singh. He feels, to make further progress the state government too has to put pressure on it.

It is ideal time now to achieve this as BJP has registered tremendous victory in coastal Karnataka and this party currently is in office at the centre. The MLAs plan to meet Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, and place before him a forceful demand for giving official status to Tulu language by including it in the eighth schedule.
