Hotel food leaves many sick; victims close down the hotel

Mangaluru: More than 30 people from Kasaragod reported sick after having consumed food from a hotel in Mangaluru and in this backdrop, the victims arrived at the hotel, conducted a protest and had the hotel shutdown on Thursday night.
It is alleged that some people from Kasaragod had consumed food from ‘Pop Tates’ foo joint located at Bunts Hostel in Mangaluru last Sunday and fell sick.
On Thursday, the victim arrived at the food joint under the leadership of a member of Kasaragod GP and questioned the owner of the hotel regarding the food. It is alleged that the owner failed to provide a convincing answer. Infuriated by this, a flash protest was held in front of the food joint. Getting information of the protest, Mangaluru City Corporation’s senior Health Officer Manhayya Shetty rushed to the location. Later, the health department of the corporation locked down the hotel.
DK District Heath and Family Welfare Officer Dr Ramkrishna Rao visited the hospital and met with the affected patients.
