Chamrajpet: The crematoriums and burial grounds are working overtime to cope with the surging number of deaths from the city’s escalating coronavirus outbreak.

As bodies have piled up due to the increased number of fatalities due to Covid-19, several crematoriums are facing space shortages. Officials of a crematorium in Karnataka’s Chamrajpet have now put up a “house full” signboard outside the facility due to a lack of space to cremate the dead bodies.

The crematorium, which takes around 20 bodies for cremation, put up a board saying no more bodies will be taken up for cremation.

Bangalore has 13 electric crematoriums in the city and they are running full due to a recent surge in the Covid-19 cases.

The Karnataka government has allotted 230 acres around Bangalore to Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) to use it as a Covid-19 burial ground to reduce the burden on the city crematorium.

The government has decided to allow cremations in family-owned farms and plots after seeing the overwhelming condition of the crematoriums
