House gutted in a fire mishap; heavy loss

Bajpe: The house belonging to Ramesh Shetty of Kallajari of Yekkar village suffered a fire mishap and incurred heavy losses on Monday night March 4th.

Cultivator Ramesh Shetty and his family were sleeping within the house when around 11 pm in the night the fire broke out. By the time the family realized that there was a fire at around 12 am, the fire had reached to the roof.

The fire, first started in the prayer room of the house, gutted the furniture there and then spread out to the gunny bags with areca nut. Later the gunny bags kept in the attic caught fire. Close to 25 quintals of areca nut was lost to the fire which also consumed many household items inflicting an estimated damage of around Rs 20 lakh.

The family members and the locals assisted in dousing the fire which was finally doused later by the fire personnel from Mangaluru and Bajep police. ZP vice president Kasturi Panji visited the location.
