Sullia: Two laborers were reportedly arrested by the police in alleged attempted robbery and murder. The incident took place in Pambettadi here on the night of March 2, where the accused tried to rob their employer.
According to the police, Varadaraj (30) and Saijan P.P. (38) had been working in the plantation of Vishwanath since four months and were living in a room near the house. On March 2, the accused entered the house at around 9:30 PM and tried to rob Gayathri (61), Vishwanath’s wife.
Varadaraj allegedly grabbed Gayathri’s neck while Saijan held her legs and threatened to kill her if she did not reveal where the gold and money were. However, hearing Gayathri’s screams, her neighbor Suresh and house help Prema came to her rescue. The accused, in a bid to escape the scene, slashed at Gayathri’s neck, injuring her. She later received treatment for injuries at Kadaba government hospital.
In her complaint lodged at Subrahmanya police station, Gayathri said that the accused had hatched a conspiracy to rob and kill her knowing full well that her husband was unable to walk.
It is learnt that Varadaraj is from Chitradurga, while Saijan is from Dharamsthala. The police have reportedly arrested both of them.
