Facebook-owned WhatsApp will start operating its ‘UPI payments service’ for Android users in India. The feature has been launched after WhatsApp received approval from the National Payments Commission of India to operate its payments service using the Unified Payments Interface (UPI).
How to setup your account
You will have to download the latest version of WhatsApp installed on your phone for the WhatsApp Pay option to be available
Open the WhatsApp app on your phone and tap on the three-dotted icon, which is placed on the top right corner of the screen.
Tap on Payments > Add payment method. You will get a list of bank names.
After selecting the name of the bank, your number (linked with the bank) will be verified.
Once it is done, you will need to set a UPI pin for carrying out transactions and you will be able to see the chosen bank on the payments page.
How to send or receive money
Send
Open the chat of the person to whom want to send money.
Click on ‘Payment’ option from the attachments option.
If your contact has WhatsApp Payment option, a screen will appear with the option to exchange money.
Put the amount of money you want to send and click Next.
Enter your UPI PIN and send the amount.
Receive
If you are requesting money, tap on Request and the other person needs to accept your request.
WhatsApp will send you a message whenever someone sends you money.
