HSRP Installation: Final deadline Sept 15; Will extension be granted or fines imposed?

Bengaluru: The deadline for the mandatory installation of High-Security Registration Plates (HSRP) for vehicles is set for tomorrow, September 15 (Sunday). However, as of now, only 52 lakh vehicles have complied with this requirement.
The rule applies to all vehicles registered before April 1, 2019, which includes approximately 1.90 crore vehicles in the state. Out of these, only 52 lakh vehicles have completed the installation, leaving about 1.40 crore vehicles still non-compliant. In this context, the Transport Department is deliberating whether to extend the deadline further or impose penalties.
This decision comes after several deadline extensions have already been granted. The matter is also currently being heard in court. The government intends to take further action based on the court’s directions.
Speaking to ‘Udayavani’, Transport Commissioner A.M. Yogesh said that the final deadline for HSRP installation is September 15. A related case will be heard in court on September 18, and any further decisions will be made based on the court’s directions, he said.
