Hubballi: CID officials submitted an estimated 483-page charge sheet to the court on Monday in connection with the murder of 23-year-old Neha Hiremath, a student of a city college and daughter of municipal member Niranjanayya Hiremath.

On April 18, Fayaz from Savadatti, a former classmate of Neha, brutally stabbed her within the premises of her college in Vidyanagar.

Neha had rejected Fayaz’s romantic advances, which enraged him and led to the murder, as he confessed during police interrogation. A case was registered at Vidyanagar Police Station.

The murder sparked widespread protests across Karnataka and the nation, with various organizations and the BJP demanding justice. Calls for the death penalty or an encounter for the killer were also raised.

Neha’s father, Niranjanayya Hiremath, a Congress municipal member, also demanded that the case be handed over to the CBI.

The state government assigned the investigation to the CID. On Monday, CID officials submitted the charge sheet to the local First Additional Civil Court and the Third JMFC Court.
