Huge Convention of Lingayats Held in Kalburgi to Form Separate Religion

Kalburgi: A National Basava Army (Rashtriya Basava Sene) has been formed at a national level convention of Lingayats held at Kalburgi on Sunday to spread the message of social reformer, spiritual leader Basavanna and unify the Lingayats to establish a separate independent Lingayat region in the world. Karnataka State Minister, Lingayat leader Vinay Kulkarni has been elected as the first president of Basava Sene.
Speaking at the convention of more than 1 lakh Lingayats here in Kalburgi, another Lingayat leader state minister for water resources, MB Patil said, 80% of the members of his community support the demand for a separate Lingayat religion. The community leaders are ready to urge the support of remaining 20% community member to form a separate religion.
Speaking on Veerashaiva Community, MB Patil said, Veerashaiva is one of the sub castes of Lingayat community found in Mysuru and neighboring areas and it is different from Lingayatism.
Lingayat convention has also decided to hold another convention of Lingayats in Bengaluru on December 10 with the participation of more than 2.5 million lingayats from various parts of the country and world for a separate independent Lingayat religion, he added.
