Kolkata: She has voiced some of the most popular Bollywood songs but singer Kavita Krishnamurthy says the title track from the 1999 romance drama “Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam” is closest to her heart.
The singer considers it to be the most difficult song in her four decade-long career as it required a lot of humming.
“I don’t sing my own numbers too much. But it is close to me since I consider it as the toughest song in my career. I remember I had apprehended that Ismail Darbar will not be happy with my rendition in one hour. But he was so happy.
“I had always been troubled to render songs which required humming. And this number from the film required lots of humming. And till this date it remains to be my most favourite number,” she told reporters on the sidelines of the recording of a Bengali reality show “Hrid Majhaare”.
The singer has also advised the singers of the present generation to stay positive and shun negativity to grow in their profession.
“My message for the present generation of singers – shun any negativity in your mind. You must remember about stalwarts like Md Rafi, Kishore Kumar and R D Burman who were always positive in their approach towards work. The lack of it would only hinder their growth,” Kavita said.
Recalling how the stalwarts had always been unfazed by their fame, the singer said, “I was sitting on a sofa in the Mehboob studio (at a time when I was more known as a dubbing artiste), I had to record a song several times as the music director was not happy with the takes.”
“As after several attempts, the recording could take place finally and Rafiji suddenly turned towards me and said, ‘For me you had to wait for so long. I am extremely sorry.’ I was so overwhelmed I could not come up with any coherent reply and fumbled.
