Mandya: The cremation of the 30 passengers who died after a bus fell into a canal near Kanaganamaradi in Pandavapura taluk of Mandya district was held on Sunday, November 25.
Three bodies were cremated at Chikka Koppalu, Eight bodies at Wade Samudra, while the remaining were cremated in other places of Pandavapura, informed sources.
As per the sources, hundreds of residents of Kanaganamaradi and nearby villages were gathered to pay their respects.
A private bus carrying passengers, mostly schoolchildren, fell into a canal at Mandya district on Saturday, November 24 killing 30 people. However, four people in the bus survived the tragedy. The people who survived are identified as, passengers Girish and Rohit, Shivanna, the bus driver and the bus conductor.
After hearing the news Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy, who was in Mandya at the time, cancelled his engagements and rushed to the spot. CM has also announced Rs. 5 lakh compensation for the families of the victims.
