The deceased woman has been identified as Bhagya. The murder accused husband has been identified as Shekar. Both were residents of Yelandoor Taluk of Chamarajanagar district. As per the sources Bhagya was Shekar’s second wife.

Shekar has a child from his first marriage which hadn’t lasted for long. Few months after the divorce with his first wife, he fell in love with Bhagya and had married her five years ago.

Reportedly, since the last six months, Shekhar used to get home, drunk daily and torture Bhagya. Fed up with her husband’s behaviour, Bhagya had complained against Shekar with the leaders of the Uppara Community leaders.

However, in spite of the repeated warnings, Shekar continued to come home drunk, but on Tuesday, he took a cruel step and murdered his wife by smashing her with a stone. Immediately after committing the crime, he went on the run, but the police were able to nab him.
