Mangaluru: The first challenge being faced by Nalin after being appointed as the state president is to pacify unhappy candidates aspiring for ministerial berth. Later, unify all the senior and junior leaders of the party. Besides he is also facing the question of the possible Assembly by-poll elections and the organization of the party.

We will work in the spirit that our party has brought and all problems and questions will be understood and then acted upon, informs BJP’s new state president Nalin Kumar.

In an interview with the ‘Udayavani’, the MP responds to several questions including dissent.

How will you quell dissent?

In politics, it is natural to feel happy when one comes to power; feel sad when one does not get power. There is predetermined framework within our party to express either feeling. Therefore, CM Yeddyurappa has invited all and is working on gaining their faith. Since BJP functions on team-work, all sit and work on repairing all problems-pain together.

There is comment regarding some areas not getting importance?

Some decisions have been taken based on the situation. We are not running the power with full mandate. Therefore some compatibility issues are inevitable. The government is ours, if there are any problems we have worked on making it right.

Aren’t there objections regarding no representation for Karavali in the cabinet?

Such opinions heard are true. This has been brought to the notice of the CM and the party seniors and discussions have been held.

If there are immediate assembly by-poll elections, how will you face them?

We did not get power easily. We have achieved power through organization and fight. Earlier, during several elections, different types of questions were exposed. This time, the by-poll elections may come inevitably; I’m ready to face them with assistance of the organization.

If such a situation arises, will ineligible MLAs be given the ticket?

This issue is presently in the court. Only after this is resolved will the decision regarding the next move will be taken in the presence of the party seniors.

Other names were heard in the race for the post of the state president. Did your selection come as a surprise?

This isn’t expectation, wish or surprise. All in the state BJP are capable. Hence there is no question on capability or incapability. The party gives the responsibility in accordance to particular situations. In this backdrop, I too must have received the honour.

What is your resolution to strengthening BJP in the state?

During the previous elections, areas which have provided less votes will be given importance, and my resolution is to display the power of BJP in those areas. The party organization based on workers, polling booth and organization is strong along Karavali. We have the aim to spread this. I dream is of a omnipresent BJP.

How will you manage the pressure as the state president while being an MP?

I’ll work honestly with the aim to provide justice to both the important responsibilities. In our district, 7 MLAs are our own; our own government is in the administration. Therefore it does not seem like a big challenge.

Floods on one hand, famine on the other; how will you give importance for their efficient management?

CM Yeddyurappa is working to handle both the situations efficiently. MLAs too will work on this. The party will work in support.
