Karur: A class 12 student killed herself on Friday alleging sexual harassment in Karur district of Tamil Nadu, reports said.

The girl, a student of a private school returned home on Friday and hanged herself to death when none were at home. Her body was discovered later by an elderly neighbour who had gone to her house to check on her.

The 17-year-old girl had lost her father around two years ago and she and her widowed mother were looked after by her cousin and her grandmother, TNIE reported.

During the investigation, police recovered a suicide note allegedly left behind by the victim. “I should be the last girl who dies in Karur district because of sexual harassment. I am scared to say who the cause of this decision of mine is. I wanted to live on this earth for long and help others, but now I have to leave this world so soon,” India Today reported the note as saying. However, the girl did not name the person responsible, it said.

This incident has further highlighted the problems of sexual harrassment. Last week, another teenager, who had been allegedly sexually harassed by a school teacher, had killed herself.

Meanwhile, the Vengamedu police have retrieved the mortal remains and sent them to the Karur GMCH for an autopsy. Further investigation is going on.

Reports said that the police are interrogating the family, teachers and principal of the school to find out the suspect hinted at by the girl in her suicide note.
