IAS aspirant among 13 killed in Byadagi mishap

The captain of Indian women’s football team for the blind was among the unfortunate victims of the horrific accident that claimed 13 lives near Gundenahalli Cross on the Pune-Bengaluru National Highway in Byadagi Taluk.

Manasa (24), who had dreams of representing India at the international level, was an IAS aspirant. She had overcome her blindness and completed MSc. She had come to her village from Bengaluru on Sunday to visit the Yellamma Temple.

The accident occurred at 3.30 am after the Tempo Traveller (TT) vehicle, in which the group was travelling collided with a stationary lorry from behind, resulting in the death of 13 people, including two children.

A total of 17 people were traveling in the TT vehicle. Out of them, 13 lost their lives, and four injured passengers are receiving treatment at the district hospital, informed SP Anshukumar.

The victims have been identified as Parashuram (45), Bhagya (40), Nagesh (50), Vishalakshi (50), Subhadra Bai (65), Punya (50), Manjula Bai (57), driver Adarsh (23), Manasa (24), Roopa (40), Manjula (50), and two children aged 4 and 6 years (names yet to be confirmed).

Arpita (18) and three others, who were injured, are receiving treatment at the district hospital.

The TT was severely damaged, and the bodies of the deceased were retrieved by fire department personnel and sent to the district hospital.
