Bengaluru: A day after Chief Minister (CM) H D Kumaraswamy said that Congress leader Mallikarjuna Kharge should have been the chief minister, State BJP president B S Yeddyurappa on Wednesday, May 15demanded Kumaraswamy to quit his CM post and allow veteran Kharge to occupy it.
Addressing pressperson Yeddyurappa said that if Kumaraswamy is sincere in what he had said, let him quit immediately and allow Kharge to be chief minister.
“If Kharge becoming CM is really Kumaraswamy’s dream, let him resign, Yeddyurappa added.
Yeddyurappa, however, claimed the Congress-JD(S) government would fall due to a rift between both parties.
“I have never said we will topple the government. We are not making attempts. JD(S) and Congress are fighting each other and because of their differences, the government will collapse,” he said.
BJP MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatna also said Kumaraswamy should make way for Kharge. “Kumaraswamy’s statement is only a poll gimmick. Kharge is a senior leader. Congress did not make use of his experience. It’s time Kumaraswamy allows Kharge to be CM.”
Meanwhile, MAllikarjuna Kharge reacting to the chief minister’s statement told reporters that Kumaraswamy’s statement was made out of affection and doesn’t like to react to emotional statements.
“We have formed the coalition government to keep the BJP away from power. We will support any party for strengthening secularism,” he added.
When questioned why Kumaraswamy has suddenly developed so much love for him, Kharge said that the question should be asked to the chief minister.
Kharge has been elected twice from Gulbarga Lok Sabha constituency and has been a central cabinet minister during Congress rule in the past.
