Bengaluru/Mangaluru: Slamming the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) for its failure to adhere to the norms laid down for disposal of construction waste, the Karnataka High court sought to know how the officials planned to make the city smart without they themselves getting smarter.
Karnataka Legal Services Authority, in its petition had accused the MCC for failing to comply with the rules and regulations for disposal of construction waste while executing 34 works undertaken within the city limits under the Smart City project. The construction waste hasn’t been cleared yet, creating an impediment for the people, advocate for the petitioner told the court.
A division bench presided over by Chief Justice Asoka directed the Commissioner to appear for hearing on December 23 through video conference and provide an explanation for the lapses.
The high court sought clarification on why are steps as per 2016 rules on construction waste disposal are not being followed and why is the Smart City corporation a silent spectator to these violations.
