Mangaluru: Under no circumstances should pregnant women be sent back from private hospitals for being COVID-19 positive, district in-charge minister Kota Srinivas Poojary has stated.
He visited Wenlock hospital on Monday and warned that if private hospitals refuse to admit pregnant women, they will be dealt with sternly.
Hospitals should be appropriately prepared for delivering babies and any delays will not be tolerated, he said.
Taking seriously the case of a pregnant woman from Nailyadi running from one hospital to another for admission, the minister ordered the Deputy Commissioner to investigate the incident. The minister warned that those responsible for the incident would be suspended from service if necessary.
Urgent action should be taken to construct separate wards to treat COVID-19 patients at Lady Goschen Hospital, he said.
The minister further said that in Wenlock, physicians must perform their duties with mutual coordination. Patients should be provided with timely delivery of food and the menu should be changed daily. A public relations officer must be appointed at the hospital to ensure that all patients who come to the hospital receive proper care and treatment.
The government would soon be proposing the expansion of ICU in Wenlock and the supply of additional ventilators. All necessary appointment of physicians, laboratory technicians, D Group personnel, and the purchase of ambulances will be done.
Wenlock Superintendent Dr Sadashiv, Superintendent of Ladygoshan Dr Savita and others were present.
