IG of ICG reviews Coast Guard Mangalore Unit

Mangaluru: Inspector General VD Chafekar, PTM, TM, Commander, Coast Guard Region (West) paid his maiden visit to the Headquarters, No 3 Coast Guard District Karnataka at New Mangalore. He reviewed the operational readiness of the fleet, the ongoing infrastructure development projects, coastal security mechanism and Pollution Response Preparedness for the coastal state of Karnataka.
The flag officer manifested his priorities for strengthening the Coast Guard Pollution Response capabilities through coordination with other stake holders. He lauded the prompt response by the ICG ships and aircraft to numerous search and rescue operations and medical evacuations at sea, including assistance to fishermen in distress and shipment of relief material to the flood-hit State of Kerala.
The chief officer interacted with officers and men and expressed his satisfaction with the preparedness and reiterated the need of infrastructure for berthing of ships which are likely to be based at New Mangalore in the near future.
A media communiqué from S.S. Dasila, Commander of Coast Guard, Karnataka stated that the IG’s presence brought a wave of motivation and enthusiasm amongst the Coast Guard personnel.
