IIT-Ropar to install negative pressure chambers to contain spread of Covid-19

IIT-Ropar, in association with a private company Ansys Software, will install negative pressure chambers at government medical centres in Punjab’s Rupnagar district to isolate Covid-19 patients.
The negative pressure room was developed to prevent transmission of Covid-19 through air at isolation wards and testing labs.
It comprises a sealed plastic canopy, a removable door around the bed of the patient and an appropriately designed ventilation system to maintain the negative pressure as well as for efficient removal of the air borne contaminants with filtration.
Ropar IIT Director Prof Sarit K Das said, “I am proud of the young faculty members of IIT Ropar who have turned the present Corona crisis to an opportunity to be Atma Nirbhar as outlined by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The negative pressure gradient room for Covid-19 patients is such a development where our faculty and students worked with the industry”
It includes a ventilation system that generates a negative pressure in the room and allows air to flow into the isolation room and escape from the room, carrying away the virus along.
Ansys has donated funds to Ropar IIT under CSR agreement towards installation of these cabins
