Illegal Mining Scam: Senior IAS Officer Arrested by SIT in Karnataka

Bengaluru: A special investigation team (SIT) arrested senior IAS officer Gangaram Baderiya on Monday in connection with illegal mining scam in Karnataka state. Former Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy is also allegedly involved in the same scam, according to the 1700 page investigation report prepared by former Karnataka Lokayukta Justice Santhosh Hegde earlier.
Senior IAS officer arrested by the team while attending an inquiry on his alleged role to grant his permission to Janthakal Enterprises for an illegal mining project. The accused sent for SIT custody by a SIT court here in Bengaluru till May 18 to obtain detailed information on his role in illegal mining scam. The IAS officer reportedly granted permission to Janthakal Enterprises when he was the director of Mining and Geology Department in the state based on fake records, documents submitted by the company for mining and transporting iron ore.
