Illegal sand extraction units raided; boat destroyed, sand seized

Kasaragod: A huge amount of sand was seized along with the destruction of two boats and two ferries

In a police raid conducted on illegal sand mining units at Aluru, Bekala and Chetukundu areas along Payaswini river.

Aluru

Two loads of sand was seized in the raid conducted at Aluru under the leadership of Aduru inspector Prem Sadan, SI Vishnudas and staffs. The seized sand was released back into the river. A boat here has been destroyed by using a JCB. Besides, two illegal ferries and road have also been destroyed.

Bekala

A boat was destroyed during the raid conducted at Bekala under the leadership of Bekala SI Ajit Kumar. The labourers who were indulging in the illegal mining managed to escape in another boat.

A huge amount of sand and a lorry has been seized at the raid conducted at Pallikere Chetukundu under the leadership of the sub-collector here.

Shiriya

Kumble police have registered a case against Volayan Ibrahim alias Umbayi (45) on the charges of attempting to create a facility to hide sand at Volayan in Shiriya. The police have also seized a huge amount of sand kept hidden within the compound of the accused here.
