Illegal sand mining: 11 boats seized for lacking requisite license

Mangaluru: As many as 11 boats engaged in illegal sand mining were confiscated during a raid, conducted by officials of Department of Mines and Geology at Jeppinamogaru and Arkula Dakke here on Friday, December 28.
The raid was conducted under the guidance of Assistant commissioner Ravichandra Nayak, officials of the Department of Mining and Geology Moorthy and Padmashree.
During the raid at Arkula Dakke, the officials found that though the license holder had permission to use three boats he was using five boats for mining and hence seized the two extra boats. At Jeppinamogaru the officials seized nine boats when it was found that the boat owner did not have the requisite permission or license.
