Illegal sand mining at Ullaibettu Idya: Police seize items valued over Rs 1 cr

A team of police personnel led by Mangalore South Sub-Division Assistant Commissioner of Police Dhanya Nayak raided and seized 10 tippers and JCB machines that were being used for illegal sand mining on the bank of Phalguni River near Ulaibettu Idya here.

The raid was conducted, under the guidance of city police commissioner Kuldeep Jain, following a tip-off regarding the illegal sand mining activity at Ullaibettu Idya, and the value of the items seized is estimated at over Rs one crore.

The laborers and the truck drivers involved in the illegal sand mining managed to flee the scene upon seeing the approaching police.

A case has been registered at Kankanady Rural Police Station.
