Illegal activity under escort!

Byndoor: Illegal sand transport in occurring unchallenged in Byndoor. Daily, a team is conducting its business by procuring sand from Mangaluru and other places. However, the Department remain as blind witnesses to this.

Business worth lakhs together

Every day, 10 trucks filled with sand from Mangaluru come till Gangolli. From here, the local brokers send it to other locations like Byndoor, Shiroor and Bhatkal. Since the lorries are large cargo trucks, no one suspects them of transporting sand. Later, a few local persons seprate the load into 5 smaller tipper lorries. The price for every tipper is decided to be Rs25,000 – Rs 30,000. A big team is function actively for this very purpose. The team is earning lakhs of rupees together.

The District Administration and the Police Department maintain that they are taking strict action. A separate checkpost equipped with CCTV cameras has been created at Shiroor border. But, this is only for namesake for big cargo trucks plying with the load of sand cannot be identified through it. Even though this business is running from Mangaluru to Shiroor, the Department is remaining quite as if it has no information.

Illegal activity under escort!

Early in the dawn, the huge sand laden trucks are sent from Mangaluru to Kundapur under escort. Along this route, they have to pass through checkposts and tollgates. Even though the police have information in this regard they are failing to take any action. A few police officials are leaders for this transportation. The sand is being supplied to Byndoor and other areas under the leadership of such officials. These lorries do not undergo any inspection anywhere. They are supplying sand to specific people.

Proper action

“Sand cannot be transported illegally through any vehicle. Based on information we have conducted raids and seized some vehicles. If there is information regarding sand transportation, it should be informed to the control room. The particular police stations will be informed to take proper action,” says Dinesh Kumar, DySP, Kundapur
