Bengaluru: A special court in Bengaluru on Thursday remanded Mohammed Mansoor Khan, founder of IMA Jewels who is accused of duping thousands of investors in a multicrore scam to 14-day judicial custody for further interrogation into the case.
Mansoor Khan, who was arrested in New Delhi on July 19 on return to India, was flown to Bengaluru on July 20, has been in the ED custody for the last 11 days for interrogation under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (FEMA) for allegedly transferring funds to overseas banks, especially in the Gulf region, through illegal means (hawala route).
A SIT probe had been set up by former state chief minister HD Kumaraswamy on June 11 to probe the scam and get Mansoor Khan back to the city.
Heeding to Mansoor Khan’s counsel request seeking medical care for his client, the court directed prison officials to ensure that Khan be provided medical treatment and that in the event of an emergency, he be taken to Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research and not Victoria Hospital.
