Mangaluru: The doctors of the twin-districts of Udupi and Dakshina Kannada have extended support to the nation-wide strike call given by the Indian Medical Association (IMA) condemning the assault of colleagues at Kolkata.
In this backdrop, the out-patient departments (OPD) at all private hospitals in the twin districts shall withdraw their services form 6 am on Monday to 6 am on Tuesday. All services except emergency are not available. Even doctors with a private practice in Dakshina Kannada district have closed their clinics for a day to support the strike call.
A meeting in this connection has been conducted and attended by the striking doctors at the Indian Medical Association auditorium, Attavar.
More emphasis to services at government hospitals
In the backdrop of the support by private hospital and doctors to the nation-wide strike call by IMA, more concentration is being given to the services being provided at all government hospitals. The district surgeon and DHO have been directed to not to give leave to anyone since private doctors are on strike. Also, since there is a possibility of more number of patients visiting the hospital, the officials have been directed to take measures to handle the rush effectively.
Presently, there has been an abnormal rush in government hospitals as private hospitals are not functional and the government hospitals have been rendering services to the patients normally. The District Wenlock Hospital and Lady Goschen Hospital at Mangaluru are witnessing an unprecedented rush of patients.
