IMD issues Red alert for coastal Karnataka on Sep 7

Udupi / Mangaluru: The Indian Meteorological department has forecasted heavy rains in the coming days for the coastal districts Karnataka and Kasaragod.
In its latest weather advisory, IMD has issued a red alert for Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Uttara Kannada, and Kasaragod districts. Heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lighting are expected in the coastal districts, it said.
There is a high likelihood of extremely heavy downpours across Coastal Karnataka, IMD noted. Seas are expected to be rough during this period and hence, fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea.
Meanwhile, the Udupi District Disaster Management Authority has instructed the department officials to be alert. Deputy Commissioner Kurma Rao has directed District/taluk officials, including the nodal officers, and Disaster Management Committee members to be ready to manage any exigent circumstances.
