Mangaluru: The Indian meteorological department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert in Dakshina Kannada district till May 14 in the wake of the Asani cyclone effect that is generated in the Bay of Bengal.

Heavy rain coupled with lightning and thunder lashed various parts of Dakshina Kannada in the wee hours of Wednesday. However, a few regions received very light to moderate rainfall.

The rain that lashed the city brought down the temperature, providing relief to the residents. But the sudden downpour caused inconvenience to several shopkeepers and the farmers who had kept areca nuts for drying in the open yard.

The road repair works in the city were also affected.
