Udupi: In view of repeated complaints about immoral activities by transgenders near the city bus stand here, the District Superintendent of Police Hakay Akshay Machhindra conducted a late-night operation on December 16.

Two pimps who ran the flesh trade were arrested and a case has been registered against them at the Udupi Town police station.

The arrested accused have been identified as Pradeep of Pithrody and Kiran of Belapu. Both have been remanded to judicial custody.

The SP who arrived at the scene in plain clothes drove away the transgenders, who were allegedly involved in prostitution and extortion. Some of them failed to recognize the SP and got into an argument with him. For some time, there was a tense atmosphere. Later, a police team arrived and dispersed them.

The police department had received several complaints about a band of transgenders soliciting sexual favors, obstructing the vehicles, creating a nuisance, and extorting money from the people.
