Mangaluru: India vs Pakistan match – Mother of all battles’, ‘clash of clashes’, ‘Match of the World Cup’, ‘Sport’s biggest rivalry’ and what not! The build-up to any cricket match between the two nations is often littered with a hyperbole. India’s 7th successive win in World Cups over Pakistan on Sunday seems to have burst the bubble of this highly anticipated tie. Meanwhile, two native’s of Mangalaru who had been to watch the match were not able to control their emotion on seeing their hometown player KL Rahul.
Rohan Shetty of Kadri and Sushanth of Urwa were among the spectators when Rahul was fielding on boundry line. The overwhelmed duo began cheering the cricketer to hit a century in the upcoming matches.
“Rahul yencha ullar. Yenkul Kudladh baida, yenkleg eerna century bod (Rahul how are you. We have come from Mangaluru, we want to see you hit a century),” they could be heard shouting from the stands.
For the uninitiated KL Rahul plays for Karnataka in Ranji trophy and has taken cricket coaching from Jayaraj at Nehru Maidan in the city during his student days.
Speaking to Udayavani Jayaraj said that Rahul was fond of cricket from the very beginning. “He would speak to fellow cricketers in Tulu itself'” he added. Rajeshwari, mother of KL Rahul speaking to Udayavani said that Rahul has several friends from the district and speaks fluent Tulu while conversing with them.
