Udupi: As India is on the cusp of signing a massive free-trade agreement known as The Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership involving 16 nations that are home to nearly 50% of the world’s population, Udupi-Chikkamagluru MP Shobha Karndlaje on Monday said that India won’t join RCEP till concerns addressed.”
Taking to twitter Shobha wrote, “India won’t join RCEP till concerns addressed!! Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s administration is unwilling to accept any deadline and wants the country’s interests to be fully protected before it inks the pact.”
PM Narendra Modi is in Bangkok to attend Asean, East Asia and RCEP summits and is of the opinion that India has put forward ‘reasonable proposals’ in a clear manner and is engaged in talks with ‘sincerity’ for the free-trade deal.
The Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) – a mega free trade agreement being negotiated among 10 ASEAN countries with their six FTA partners (India, China, Japan, South Korea, Australia, and New Zealand). The proposed deal is expected to be finalized and signed by the next month.
