Days after singer Amit Kumar revealed that the makers of Indian Idol had asked him to praise all the contestants, irrespective of their performance, the show’s Season 1 winner Abhijeet Sawant said that the focus of the show has shifted from talent towards sob stories of contestants.
Abhijeet, in an interviwe with Aaj Tak said, “These days, the makers are more interested in whether the participant can polish shoes or how poor he is, rather than his talent. You should watch regional reality shows where viewers may not know anything about the background of their favorite contestants. Their focus is only on singing, but in Hindi reality shows, the tragic and sad stories of contestants are shown. The focus is only on that.”
He further went on to state that the viewers are responsible for this as they are always looking for spice.
