Centre will soon began issuing e-passports for all citizens and is selecting an agency that will set up the IT infrastructure to implement the project.
An e-passport contains an electronic chip that holds the information printed on the passport’s data page. The bio-metric data of the travellers are also saved in that chip.
It is said that e-passports will help in making passports difficult to forge and will allow quicker migration for international passengers.
Also, Travellers will no longer need to wait in queues at the immigration counters as the new e-passport can be scanned within a few minutes.
Sources claim, dedicated unit will be set up by the agency for preparing personalised e-passports.
