Udupi: Jayadeva Motors showroom premises located in the vicinity of a petrol bunk at Indrali erupted into fire inflicting damages worth lakhs of rupees on Sunday night June 23.
The building in question is a three floor building and the two-wheeler showroom is located on the second floor. The new vehicles at the premises have been gutted. Along with the showroom, the building also houses Vinyas Academy, a gym and the clinic of an orthopaedician.
An Indian Oil petrol bunk is located just a few meters away from the incident spot. However, immediate necessary actions were taken thereby preventing the occurrence of a major mishap. The cause of the fire has not been ascertained. The entire area was covered in thick smoke. The number of vehicles within the showroom and actual damage incurred remains to be found out.
Udupi, Malpe fire engine utilized
Initially, two fire engines from Udupi fire station rushed to the spot. But, as the fire intensity was too much, a fire engine was also procured from Malpe fire station. The fire engines maintained status quo until late into the night. Water was supplied to the fire engines through water tankers and arrangements were made to prevent any hindrance to the operation.
No life has been lost. The area was filled with a crowd of onlookers. As a four land road passed by the incident location, vehicle movement was stopped along the lane closest to the location.
With a petrol bunk located in the vicinity of the incident spot, the staffs at the bunk immediately undertook precautionary measures. The functioning pumps were stopped including the ones which were filling vehicles.
As a precautionary measure, Mescom cut power supply to the area and hence, the people in the area were compelled to spend the night without the luxury of a fan.
