Surathkal: Madhav Bhat Kullangalu, a farmer, spiritualist and yoga practitioner, is redeveloping a lake at his family property at an estimated cost of Rs 50 lakhs.

Inspired by one of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Mann Ki Baat programme where the PM had asked all citizens to participate in the task of increasing groundwater levels, Bhat planned to redevelop the lake spread over 2.5 acres.

Started in January, about 50 per cent of the 30 feet deep, 125 feet wide and 140 feet long lake’s redevelopment has been completed and is planned to be finished before the arrival of the monsoon.

The lake will have a filtration system, a barrier wall and a yoga and meditation area at its banks.

“After the Prime Minister’s encouraging words, I became interested in increasing groundwater levels. With the blessings of my father D Venkatraja Bhat, I came forward to redevelop the lake near a Nagabana in our family’s ancestral land and increase the groundwater level in our land and also in our surrounding areas,” said Madhav Bhat Kullangalu.
