Internal strife resurfaces as YSV Datta returns to JDS

Bengaluru: After the tussle over Hassan ticket, another controversy is brewing in the JDS as former Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy and former Minister H.D. Revanna, sons of former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda, are reportedly at odds over the re-induction of former MLA Y.S.V. Datta into the JDS fold.

Datta, who had left the JDS to join the Congress party, has now returned to the JDS, with Revanna and his son Prajwal Revanna visiting his residence in Yagati and announcing that he will be the candidate for the upcoming Kadur elections.

However, Kumaraswamy is reportedly against Datta’s re-induction into the JDS and has said that he was not consulted on the matter. The question of welcoming Datta into JDS is a decision for Deve Gowda to take, Kumaraswamy said at his Kalaburagi residence.

The sudden turn of events has led to speculation that Datta was given entry into the JDS by keeping Kumaraswamy in the dark. However, Revanna has refuted these claims and said that Deve gowda had spoken to Kumaraswamy about the issue. Deve Gowda asked him to induct Datta and make him JDS candidate for Kadur, Revanna said.

It is said that Revanna has insisted on Datta rejoining the JDS since Kadur falls under the Hassan Lok Sabha constituency.

Datta’s shift from the Congress to the JDS is not uncommon in politics, but it has exposed the resentment between Kumaraswamy and Revanna once again.
